Plenty of people decide to set up a new blog each day. They might be blogs related to their hobbies and interests. Or, they could be business blog sites, set up alongside corporate websites. When you surf the Web, it’s hard not to come across a blog on your travels.
Blogs let people voice their opinions and show others how to do stuff. They are also useful for announcing details of new products and services from a brand. Are you thinking of setting up a new blog soon? If so, you’ve come to the right place!
Today, I will share with you some of my secrets of success. As you know, my blog has a lot of content – and a lot of people checking my posts out! But, how do I come up with the dynamite material that I talk about? And where do all my visitors originate? Keep reading and I’ll tell you what you need to know!
What do you want to talk about?
In general, people set up blog sites because they want to write about a subject that’s close to their heart. It’s usually a topic they enjoy, such as technology, fashion or anything else for that matter!
If you are going to take away anything from this blog post, it should be one fact in particular. Only write about stuff that you are passionate about! If you’re a gadget geek, talking about fashion may not interest you. And vice versa.
Who is your target audience?
You want people to read what you have to say, right? Well, who do you want to check out your content? It’s crucial you decide who your target audience is before you start. Otherwise, the only person that will read your content is you.
For instance, an auto blog might get read by males aged 16-40. A supercar blog might target those with deep pockets. And so forth.
Should you make money from your blog?
Let me answer that question with another one: why would you NOT want to make money from your blog? Don’t forget that you have to pay for costs like domain name renewals, hosting and email. You’ve also got to account for the time you spend writing articles on your blog.
People can’t live on love alone, so you need some way of funding your blog. Many of the top blogs out there make money from their sites. The most common way is through the use of affiliate links. In a nutshell, if you refer your visitors to another site and they buy a product on there, you get a commission.
How should I drive traffic to my new blog?
There are plenty of ways you can try to get visitors to your site. For me, I find that social media marketing offers the best way. Of course, there are other options you can try as well, such as:
- PPC (pay-per-click) marketing;
- Writing guest posts on other blogs and linking back to relevant content on your site;
- Adding your blog’s URL to blog directory sites.
I’ve tried a few of those options, and social media seems to work best for me. Good luck with your new blog!
