10 Things You Must Do If You Want To Land That Job

You’ve got your eye on a job, and you don’t want to leave it to chance. You HAVE to get it. There will likely be lots of other competent candidates going for it too, so you need to make sure you stand out against the rest. Here are 10 things you must do if you want to land that job:

Get Professional Help With Your CV

If you are fully confident that you can write an impressive, unique CV, then go ahead and do it. However, a little professional help could go a long way. You can find lots of companies that will help you to do this, so choose carefully. Having the same CV as everybody else won’t get you very far.

Write a Cover Letter

A cover letter is a must if you’re determined to land that job. This is where you can show off your personality a little, get creative and tell them why you deserve this job. You can get professional help with this too if you need it. Make sure it’s specific to the company you are applying for!

Tailor Your Application

Tailoring your application is really important. Only include things on your CV that are relevant to the job you’re going for. Highlight things that will be of use in this job. The same with the cover letter, as mentioned before. You want them to know that you haven’t just sent out 100 CVs to different companies!

Do Something Different

Doing something different is a great way to get their attention and make them remember you. For example, if you’re applying to work at a web design company, why not direct them to a specially made page on a website of yours? This page could contain a CV, cover letter, and showcase some of your skills.

Dress Appropriately

Assuming you get an interview, you need to dress appropriately. It doesn’t always need to be a suit. If you’re working in retail, you might be better off dressing according to the latest trends to show you’re knowledgeable.

Research the Company

Going to an interview and not knowing anything about the company is one of the worst things you can do. Make sure you research them so you can answer questions effectively. You’ll also want to ask questions about them – clever questions that show you’ve done your research!

Come Up with Answers to Difficult Questions

You might get asked some difficult questions, so try to preempt them in advance and come up with some answers. Make sure you don’t just give answers you’ve found online though, personalize them.

Be Truthful

You must tell the truth. Liars always get found out, so don’t think about fibbing on your CV or in the interview. You don’t want to be like those people who lie to avoid ir35. Be honest!

Smile and Watch Body Language

Make sure you’re giving off the right signals with your body language. Be conscious of smiling and how you’re sitting!

Follow Up the Interview

Send a handwritten thank you note after the interview to show them you appreciate their time. You could even do something different that you think they’ll appreciate.
