Okay, as a mom I get to brag a little every once in a while. This is one of those ‘once in a while’s’.
Last week my beautiful and intelligent daughter received two 8th grade awards. One for history and one for maintaining a GPA above a 3.5 for both 7th and 8th grade! She is definitely my little smarty pants of the bunch. She works so hard to maintain high grades in all of her classes, which happens to be honors classes. Not only this, but she is also quite beautiful; although, I am a bit biased, but everyone I’ve ever talked to agrees with me. She is going to go very far in life. She is quite driven in everything she does. I am so very proud of her!
In addition, my handsome son won a district-wide essay contest at school. Each school in the district had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Neither his horrible teacher, nor his bullying classmates thought he should enter because they didn’t think he could place, much less win 1st place! Well, he did with his essay titled Our Flag Flies Today. Yes, he had asked me for help. No, I didn’t write it for him. I took this as a teaching opportunity and made general suggestions and gave a couple of general ideas, but he wrote the paper and I couldn’t be prouder! I knew he could do it!
He told me that as he was listening to the presenter announce the 3rd and 2nd place winners he really didn’t think he’d have a chance at winning because he knows the 2nd place winner and he really didn’t think that he could write better than she can. Then, the presenter announced his name as the 1st place winner! His jaw dropped as he realized that he was the winner.
For winning the essay contest, he got to walk in the Anaheim Flag Day parade this morning, was recognized at the Anaheim Flag Day festivities, and received two Disneyland Park Hopper tickets. I’m so proud!! It was a great day!
