Using public relations is a great way to get the word out about your business, especially when you are planning a promotional event. Submitting press releases to your local newspaper and your local chamber of commerce at least one week prior to the event will give them enough time to publish the press release and get the word out about your event. You should include the event date(s) and the call to action on your POS receipts for all customers. Display the grand-opening fliers in your store and invite EVERYONE. You can also design a giveaway entry form, have an “enter to win box” and / or fish bowl to collect business cards. These are a great way to capture customer contact information for your POS database and making follow-up calls to invite customers back to the store. You can even contact existing customers and invite them back for a special “Customer Appreciate Day.”
Yes, this takes some time and planning, but it’s well worth it in the end. The bigger the turnout at your event, the greater chance you have to make more sales, gain a good ROI on the event, and gain additional contacts to invite back in the future.
