With the summer fast approaching, many companies are looking for ways to enhance employee morale. Who wants to sit in an office for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, burning precious daylight when their kids are out playing and having a great time in the sun (most of them anyways)? In an article written by SHRM Online staff, they discuss what the most prized summer benefits are by employees.
Some of these include:
- Flexible schedules
- Leave early on Fridays
- Activities such as a company picnic or potluck
- More relaxed dress code
While most companies offer these programs, or something similar, there are still some companies out there who don’t offer any summer programs for employees. These companies are missing out on important, and simple, ways to increase employee morale and retention.
Every parent will appreciate increased control over their work schedules to help create a work-life balance, especially during the summer when kids are out of school and there are so many activities that can be done outdoors. Creating flexible schedules helps with this work-life balance and allows parents to give attention to their family, reduce stress, and increase their work productivity.
Does your company offer any summertime perks? If so, what are they and how have they impacted morale and retention at your company?
