Organizational development is the strategy the organization as a whole has developed to increase performance across the company. Generally, organizational development entails implementing training for employees for career development and changing the culture of the company toward the direction the organization is going (or a different direction if the company needs). Management development plays an integral role in organizational development because the development of managers and others in the organization can either increase or reduce performance. Through management development individuals are coached on how to be successful, develop their career paths, and increase the effectiveness of the organization in the industry. Merging organizational and management development is a smart move for a company because the managers (leaders) of the company are the ones who create the culture with other employees. They can either stagnate or increase performance and productivity in the company.
