Without Power…What To do?
A week (or so) ago there was a very large power outage caused by one employee in AZ. This power outage spanned from Mexico to Southern California, to Arizona, leaving millions of people without power for up to 12 hours. As I watched the news I began to become disgusted with how so many people were reacting to the situation. Many people being interviewed on the news were only concerned that there was no television or internet. I do have to say that a few (very few) were actually looking on the bright side and thinking of ways they could spend time with their loved one’s without electricity.
While I definitely feel for those without electricity because of the inability to turn on the AC, there are ways to stay cool AND entertained without electricity. Maybe more people need to re-learn how to do things without television and internet. Maybe, just maybe, more people need to re-learn how to spend quality time with friends and family members.
Some of my ideas on what to do without electricity:
- Play board games (including games like Twister and Charades)
- Play ball (any kind – baseball, basketball, football, catch)
- Color or paint a picture
- Riding bikes
- Playing Frisbee
- Read a book
- Play in the water
- Kick back in a chair outside (or on the lawn) and just talking
- Plant a garden
- Wash the car(s)
- Write a story / book
- Go for a walk (with or without the dog)
- Go to the park or beach
- Walk to a local liquor store / gas station for ice cream
What types of things do you like to do without electricity?
