I have recently become active in an Alumni Mentorship program through the University of Phoenix. I believe that this will be a great experience for both of us because, after 3 degrees under my belt and working on a certificate program, I believe that I have a lot to offer someone who is new to the school and who is a working parent.
So, to my surprise, when I opened my Google Reader this morning I saw a blog post on mentor programs! I thought the post The Role of Mentor Trust and Protégé Internal Locus of Control in Formal Mentoring Relationships was a great read. There are several ways a mentor program can be implemented, including in the workplace. As the article says, a program like this should not be forced upon anyone, but employees should be encouraged to seek out individuals who they believe would help them grow in their roles, and beyond.
Have you ever been involved in a mentorship program? If so, what did you like or dislike about it?
