I found an article titled One lazy worker can spoil the team that is quite interesting. This article discusses
how an individual in a team who has a negative attitude or who is not conscientious of others can bring the morale and performance levels down in the team. This is quite logical. Since we emit certain brain waves that attract whatever we are thinking about, it is quite possible that someone with a bad attitude can ‘rub off’ on the other team member, thus contributing to poorer performance and an overall bad attitude of the team.
At the end of the article it says that Dr. Cavanagh is cautious of studies that attempt to link specific personality traits to anything. It goes on to say that everyone has a part in how a team performs, which is absolutely true.
What is your opinion on this? Do you think that, in general, a team will have lower performance because of that one ‘bad apple’?
