Abusive Bosses – Leave Them!
Have you ever thought that you have the worst boss ever? Well, according to The Lowdown On Abusive Bosses And The Unhealthy Workplace – Part 1, this is becoming more and more common in the U.S. Instead of companies promoting healthy, happy, and functional workplaces, they are leaning toward more of the bullying-supervisor workplaces where it’s, quite honestly, borderline (and in some cases goes over the line) of a hostile work environment.
Have you ever watched the movie The Devil Wears Prada? This is a perfect example of how more and more bosses are becoming. These abusive bosses are causing so much more than pissed employees. The result of the rants and raves, name calling, and threatening can actually result in some serious health problems for the
employee. Below is a very brief list:
- Stomach Ulcers
- Lowered (or non-existent) Self Esteem
- Lowered (or non-existent) Ethical Morals
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (YES! Like our men and women
who fight in the military!)
Now, the question is why would a company promote such behavior? This article addresses this as well. There are several factors, including the downed economy where the boss thinks that no one is meets his/her expectations, the ability to control others using their fears, the potential recreation of an abusive upbringing, etc. There are so many reasons that they are too numerous to list.
For those who put up with the abuse, my heart goes out to you, but my advice is to GET OUT!! Find a new job! For those who have gotten away from the abuse, GREAT JOB!! Yes, it is exactly like an abusive marriage / relationship, because that is what it is…an employer – employee relationship.
